Round the Bays Donations

RDAs in Auckland were fortunate to receive a most generous donation - $1000 for each of the 7 groups and the balance of $13,000 for the region. Criteria for spending was that we needed to buy equipment that would benefit the riders.

To that end we spent most of our money having a large outdoor mirror erected on the side of our garage (and with weatherproof sliding metal door). The main aim of this is that the riders can see for themselves exactly how they are sitting on the horse. A child with difficulties with sensory integration can be shown how they sit, moved or prompted into the correct position, and then experience the feel of this position, whilst getting the visual feedback. Look at the 2 photos of Jamie and the difference is noticeable.

All riders have had a big buzz out of seeing themselves sitting up above mere earthlings - and the horses quite like admiring themselves too!

The third photo shows Maisie on our new peanut - this is used for children with tight hip adductor muscles to have a stretch before getting on their horse.

Many thanks to Graeme who masterminded the project and to Paton Roofing, Henderson, who donated the metal door.
